A sandy bay right beside St Peter Port, with views to Castle Cornet, Herm and Sark, and one of the island’s biggest tidal transformations.
Tides are the same island-wide. These are today’s heights and times for Havelet Bay.
Havelet lies immediately south of St Peter Port harbour. At low tide, broad areas of sand and rocky shore and rock pools are exposed; as the tide rises, much of the beach is covered and the sea can reach the wall. There is slipway access near Castle Cornet and on the southern side.
It’s a convenient place for a swim close to Town, but harbour traffic, boats and coastal structures all need to be considered. La Vallette Bathing Pools are a short distance around the southern side and have their own access and tide behaviour.
Havelet changes substantially with the tide: low water exposes sand and rock pools, while higher water gives more direct deep-water access from the slipways. Check which access point is usable and be aware of rocks and structures that submerge.
Tides. Tide predictions are forecasts. Actual sea level is affected by atmospheric pressure, wind and waves. Always observe the sea and your surroundings.
Swimming. Sea swimming carries risks: currents, waves, rocks, submerged structures, boats and cold water. This page is for planning and does not confirm conditions are safe.
Facilities. Facilities and café opening hours change seasonally. Check directly before making a journey specifically to use them.
