About the beach

Moulin Huet

Moulin Huet sits below a wooded valley and the St Martin’s cliff paths, with granite outcrops dividing the shoreline and golden sand revealed at low tide. Renoir stayed here in September–October 1883 and painted around fifteen views of the bay.

The self-guided Renoir Walk follows five steel viewpoint frames, each with a QR audio guide, placed where the artist worked, from the car park above the bay up onto the cliff path. Access to the beach itself is down a steep valley path and back up.

Tide & the beach

Lower water reveals more sand and rocky shore. The bay’s shape means separate areas and channels change considerably as the tide rises. Keep your return route in mind and don’t treat a tide time as proof a route across rocks will stay open.
