A long stretch of gently sloping northern sand, backed by L’Ancresse Common, some of the island’s longest beaches.
Tides are the same island-wide. These are today’s heights and times for Pembroke & L’Ancresse.
Pembroke and L’Ancresse sit side by side along the north coast, backed by the common with its prehistoric remains and later coastal defences. The extensive shoreline suits long walks and beach games, and the shallow gradient is good for paddling.
Beach wheelchairs are available at Pembroke for assisted use. They aren’t independently powered and need an adult helper, so check current booking and collection arrangements before travelling. A beach wheelchair being available does not make the whole natural beach wheelchair-accessible.
Higher water is commonly preferred for swimming, as the sea can retreat a long way at low tide to reveal a wide expanse of sand.
Tides. Tide predictions are forecasts. Actual sea level is affected by atmospheric pressure, wind and waves. Always observe the sea and your surroundings.
Swimming. Sea swimming carries risks: currents, waves, rocks, submerged structures, boats and cold water. This page is for planning and does not confirm conditions are safe.
